A new study shows the largest income group in the nation lacking health insurance is families well above the poverty level.
The study released by the nonprofit and nonpartisan Iowa Policy Project on Thursday says that accounts for about 30 percent of people without health coverage.
Andrew Cannon, a researcher with group, says the current health care system isn’t working and that the issue is not just a poverty issue.
The group’s review of health insurance issues comes as Congress is focused on the issue.
The study concluded that one solution to the issue is health insurance exchanges, a managed marketplace within a geographic area where consumers can compare options.
The Iowa Policy Project produces research and analysis to engage Iowans in state policy decisions.
