Restaurant Spotlight: Geek’s Seafood, Salad and Subs

More by this author

It’s been a long night. You and your friends have been bar hopping, and all the dancing (and sipping of beverages) has your stomach grumbling. I’ve been here several times, and ordinarily my choices would lead me to one of three options: pizza, White Castle or tacos.

At this point in my adult life, however, I tend to desire healthier options. The only issue is no matter what side of town I’m on, it’s nearly impossible to find halfway decent food late at night outside of maybe stopping at a grocery store and cooking it myself at home.

One night, I found myself wandering around Broad Ripple Avenue in search of tacos. My favorite spot was unfortunately closed. My late-night dinner companion suggested wings. I obliged, and off we went, only to get to the wing spot and hear these dreaded words, “I’m sorry, but we just ran out of wings.”

At this point, I was more than a little agitated. #FirstWorldProblems.

We wandered around a little more and found something we didn’t even know we were looking for — Geek’s Seafood, Salad and Subs. Geek’s, which is located at 6336 Guilford Ave. in the same building that used to house Greek’s Pizza, is the answer to all of your late-night food problems.

The sit-in restaurant features a full salad bar with several different greens and toppings, fresh smoothies, delicious seafood, sandwiches and a host of other items. On this particular night, I kept it simple and ordered a grilled chicken salad and an order of fried shrimp.

The salad portion was huge, and the shrimp was fried perfectly and had a great seasoning on it that reminded me of Old Bay, but better. The amount of food I got for the price was unbelievable, and the service was excellent as well. I was also excited to learn that they stay open until 4 a.m. on the weekends!

I enjoyed myself so much at Geek’s that I came back for a second visit a couple days later with my mother. This will probably make me sound like a horrible food writer, but as a creature of habit, I ordered the same exact thing, and it was just as delicious.

Overall, this place is awesome, and I hope they stay around for a while. If you ever find yourself in Broad Ripple, I’d definitely advise you give them a shot.
