Clay and cocktails

Tired of the same old routine every Friday night? Sweat pants and TV; Smokey bar and dance club. Dinner and a movie. Yawn! Try something new. Come get dirty and flirty at the Indianapolis Art Center, 820 E. 67th St. with Clay & Cocktails.

Clay & Cocktails starts with a brief demonstration from an instructor, and then youā€™re off on your own to create your own hands-on project and dive into the wine. This short and social event is on Fridays from 7 ā€“ 9 p.m.

Students must be over 21 years of age to participate. Clay & Cocktails workshops are scheduled for February 26, March 19, and April 9. Non-member price is $37 (save $3 when you become an Art Center member.)

Girls invited to Winter Blast

Girls in grades K-12 are invited to participate in Winter Blast on Sunday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Caribbean Cove Water Park, 3850 Depauw Blvd. (southeast of the Michigan Rd. exit off I-465)

Girls and their families can enjoy the slide park and swimming pool and learn about current and future Girl Scouts of Central Indiana program opportunities, including the Girl Scout Cookie Program and summer camp.

The $5 event fee per person includes access to the slide park and swimming pool. A $5 food voucher for a hot dog and drink will also be available for purchase. No event registration is required; just come join the fun! Parents must remain at the event.

Winter Blast is open to girls who are not Girl Scout members. Girls may register to become Girl Scouts by paying $12 membership dues. Financial assistance is available.

College Ave. – Journey Through Asia: Bharata Natyam – East Indian Classical Dance, March 13 at 2 p.m. – As part of the series celebrating Asian cultures, languages and people, individuals of all ages are invited as Nivedita Rangnekar demonstrates the traditional hand gestures, precise neck movements and rhythm footwork of Bharata Natyam, an ancient East Indian dance. Real Entertainers and Losers

Are you, the real rapper, the real poet or the real model? The Real puts like talent against like talent. The Real places comics against comics, model against model, hair stylists against hair stylists, with each categoryā€™s grand prize being $1,000 and a ā€œRealā€ Big Trophy.Ā 

Contestants should report to The Center Point, 3334 N. Arlington Ave. on the last Saturday of each month. Doors open at 8 p.m., the show begins live streaming at 9 p.m. Competition categories include: comics, actors, actresses, singers, rappers, barbers, hairstylists, poets, dancers and fashion model. Contestants must pay a $5 venue cover charge.

Audience members can ether experience each round of competition live or visit www.ampstv.com to watch live streaming video of the event. Admission for attendance is $5. Immediately following the live competition viewers decide whoā€™s ā€˜Realā€™ and whoā€™s not.

500 Festival opens volunteer registration system

The 500 Festival announced that Volunteer Registration for the 2010 500 Festival Volunteer Program is now open. Those interested in volunteering can sign-up by going to www.500festival.com.Ā The non-profit 500 Festival is looking for volunteers to help produce a variety of community events and programs that celebrate the 500 Festivalā€™s 2010 theme, Embrace the Pace, and the 2010 Indianapolis 500.

Volunteers play a critical role in producing the fun and excitement that generates throughout the 500 Festival events. With over 100 areas of opportunity to volunteer, the 500 Festival Volunteer Program gives anyone the chance to see the Festivalā€™s events up close.

The 500 Festival Volunteer Program is a great team-building experience for groups of all sizes. By volunteering together, companies, groups and families benefit by giving back to the community and experiencing a 53-year tradition in Indianapolis. The 500 Festival works with all groups and individuals to find the event and area that best meets their needs.

Ā Those who sign-up to volunteer will receive a 500 Festival volunteer T-shirt, an official 500 Festival event credential, a Volunteer Program Pin, complimentary meals, refreshments, parking and guaranteed fun.
