Taylor football to host first – ever night game

Taylor University Athletic Department officials announced today that the school’s football team will host its first-ever night game when Taylor faces Anderson University on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. in the annual Wagon Wheel Game.

“We are excited to host this unique event for our students to help kick off the school year and Labor Day weekend,” said Dr. Angie Fincannon, Taylor’s Athletic Director. “The Wagon Wheel Game is such a great rivalry on its own, but playing under the lights on a Thursday night will just add to the excitement of the game.”

The game was originally scheduled for the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, but it was moved to Thursday night when sponsors offset the cost for temporary lights to be brought in the day of the game.

The season-opener for both teams will mark the 59th meeting between the two rivals, with Anderson holding a 37-19-2 all-time advantage. Taylor won last year’s contest at Anderson by the final score of 27-17.

One full month will pass before Taylor’s next home game. Following two straight road contests and a bye week, the Trojans will return home for Parents’ Weekend on Oct. 3 when they host No. 17 St. Xavier University at 1 p.m.
