The velveteen rabbit

The Junior Civic Theatre will present Margery Williams’ classic novel turned play “The Velveteen Rabbit.” The popular book will come to life with enthralling music that will vary from humorous to heartfelt. The play will be held at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre, 3200 Cold Spring Rd., for ages 6-18.

Showtimes are June 18 and 19 at 7 p. m., and June 21-23 at 10 a.m. and 1 p. m. The cost of the tickets are $9; $6 for daycare groups. Tickets may be purchased online at www.civictheatre.org or call the box office at (317) 923-4597.

Sisterspeak

A nationally-recognized group commonly known as Sisterspeak will host Sisterspeak Luncheons in Indianapolis. The organization will come to honor area women who have made changes common to none in the community. The luncheon will feature Indianapolis comedian Diane Amos and author Susan Johnson Cook; sisterhood among women, what happens when women play together and stay together as well as putting the “relate” in relationship, will all be discussed.

The event is free and will be held Saturday, June 19 from 11 a. m. until 3 p. m. at The Westin Indianapolis, 50 S. Capitol Ave.

Indianapolis Art Center exhibit

The Indianapolis Art Center will open a new exhibition on Friday, June 18. There will be several different artists and photographers featured. The exhibit will display and examine patterns, as well as designs and spaces that shape our lives and environment. The exhibit will run June 18 through Aug. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p. m. Admission is free.

IMA Opens Fairbanks art and nature park

On June 19 and 20, Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Rd., will hold its weekend long celebration of music, art, tours and a Summer Solstice program. The purpose of 100 Acres is to mix mystery and magic along with the randomness of the park’s new installations. On Saturday, June 19 the program will run 11 a.m.-2 p. m., and on Sunday, June 20 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $125 for member VIP preview with artist and architect; general admission is $80 and $50 for members.

Fever bowling tournament

FedEx will host the 2010 Indiana Fever Bowling Tournament. This will be the ninth annual bowling tournament that the Indiana Fever and Fever coaches participate in. The tournament will go to support the Be YOUnique Fund, which the Indiana Pacers basketball team uses to assist in funding organizations that serve young women and girls.

Fans, season ticket holders and Fever sponsors are encouraged to come out for fun and food with the team. Registration costs for an individual, who will be assigned to a team, is $150. The cost for a team of four to bowl with a celebrity is $600.

The event will take place at Pinheads in Fishers, 13825 Britton Park Rd. on Tuesday, June 22.
