The International Black Women’s Film Festival (IBWFF) has combated the negative stereotyping of Black women in film, media and television since 2001; now they’re inviting media makers to do the same.

The IBWFF is accepting film, video and animation submissions for its 2010 season. Media makers have until May 17 to submit their work to the festival without a film submission fee.

The festival accepts all categories, including, shorts, features, documentaries, experimental, music video, digital media, online films and animation. All genres are accepted, except for explicit adult film and video.

Winter weather reminder

In Central Indiana, the challenges of winter weather continue. Ice and snow that cover storm inlets can contribute to drainage problems and slick conditions on residential streets. As a result, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works is asking residents and property owners to do their part and regularly check and clear storm inlets of snow, ice and other debris.

Clogged or blocked storm inlets can lead to numerous problems. Snow and ice can block proper water flow into storm inlets resulting in drainage problems, flooded streets and dangerous conditions, such as black ice on streets and sidewalks. In addition, standing water on streets can work its way into the sanitary and combined sewers, taking up needed capacity and contributing to raw sewage overflows and backups at homes and businesses.

As temperatures fluctuate, residents can also be assured that DPW is monitoring streams and rivers for any risk of potential flooding.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition search

Do you know someone whose home deserves an Extreme Makeover? If so, the producers of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” want to hear from you. Ty Pennington and his crew have been all across the map and they are ready to drive that famous bus into your neighborhood.

Producers are in search of people who have amazing strength of character and who put their own needs aside to help others. In addition, the producers are looking for families whose houses need major alterations or repair – homes that present serious problems for the family and affect the family’s quality of life.

To be eligible, a family must own their own single family home and be able to show producers how a makeover will make a huge difference in their lives.

Interested families or those who wish to nominate another family should e-mail a short description of their family story to castindiana@gmail.com.

The deadline for nominations is March 19.
