In less than the time it will take you to read these sentences, a woman will be beaten.

The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) is committed to eliminating domestic violence in our state and will offer a healthy way to show support at the 10th annual Race Away from Domestic Violence. The run/walk/wheelchair roll is June 1 starting at 8 a.m. at Victory Field. Proceeds from the event will benefit ICADV.

ā€œParticipation has increased every year since we started the event,ā€ said Laura Berry, ICADV executive director. ā€œWe hope to reach 1,000 participants this year.ā€ The family-friendly event winds its way 3.1 miles through downtown Indianapolis. There will be events for children, too, including a bounce house. At 9 a.m. there is even a sprint for the young runners.

Individuals and teams can register by visiting www.icadvinc.org and clicking on the ā€œEventsā€ tab at the top, right side of the page. Event registration is $20 per person in advance and $25 per person the day of the race. Prizes are awarded to the top finishers in the competitive events and to the largest participating team.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to raise additional money for ICADV by creating a fundraising page through FirstGiving. ā€œIt’s a safe, secure web site that’s really easy to set up,ā€ said Berry. Donations to teams or individuals can be made at firstgiving.com/icadv.

The 10th annual Race Away From Domestic Violence is proudly presented by the Casino Association of Indiana. Top sponsors include Hoosier Park, Indiana Grand, Barnes & Thornburg and WTHR13. Twenty-seven other companies and individuals sponsor the event at various levels.

ICADV works to eliminate domestic violence through the implementation of prevention programs including public education, advocacy for system and societal change, influencing public policy and allocation of resources. Until the violence is ended, ICADV works to promote, strengthen and provide quality comprehensive services for member programs and all individuals affected by domestic violence in all 92 counties across the state. ICADV currently provides supportive services to more than 50 domestic violence shelters and non-residential programs. For more information visit icadvinc.org.
