Black Eyed Peas singer apl.de.ap returned to his native Philippines for a whirlwind visit to raise money for charity after the two devastating storms that recently hit the region.

The Los Angeles-based singer, whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo, headlined a benefit concert alongside local hip-hop acts on Thursday just north of Manila.

“I just want to tell everybody that my heart goes out to you guys and I will try my best to help out,” he told Filipino reporters before the event.

Proceeds from the concert were earmarked for communities affected by the storms.

He also brought food supplies from the United States, donated cash to aid efforts and joined an internationally targeted appeal for more aid to the Philippines.

The visit was short, however, with the singer scheduled to return immediately to Los Angeles to rejoin his Black Eyed Peas bandmates for a performance.

Lindo, who was adopted and moved to the U.S. as a teen, has participated before in cultural efforts promoting his heritage, including starting a music label ? Jeepney Music ? to spotlight emerging Filipino talent and performing on a rap song touting tourism to the Philippines.

Millions of homes suffered damage and more than 350 people died in the rampant flooding and dangerous landslides in the Philippines after tropical storm Ketsana and Typhoon Parma hit in late September and early October.
