On Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Zion Hope Baptist Church (ZHBC) will host “Retire Ready” a free seminar open to the public for current and future retirees. It will include lunch, fun and fellowship. Representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Central Indiana Council on Aging (CICOA), Financial Partners Group (FPG), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Social Security Administration will share “game” rules/things to consider when preparing for life after work.

Experts and professionals from the aforementioned organizations are set to review what’s new for the 2013 tax year, the Affordable Healthcare Act and how it affects the uninsured, insured, employers, retirees and future retirees. They will also provide information about preventing medical fraud, computing benefit amount(s), financial planning, options to strengthen Social Security and more.

“Zion Hope’s purpose for this seminar is to provide the community with expert information about planning for the future,” said Tony McGee, senior pastor of ZHBC. “With debt traps, benefit changes, new programs, etc., we want to help guide participants so they can make good, sound decisions as they plan for retirement. Proverbs 18:15 teaches us that ‘An intelligent heart acquires knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.’ Whether you are retired or thinking about retiring you should attend. Our guest speakers will help you begin to figure it out.”

According to a summer 2013 Gallup Economy and Personal Finance survey, as reported by CNBC “The average U.S. retirement age has climbed to 61, up from 57 two decades ago…The average non-retired American now plans to retire at 66, up from 60 in 1995.” Pastor McGee said this makes it even more relevant and important to help prepare senior saints, whom are staying in the work-force community longer.

The seminar boasts interactive presentations from five seasoned professionals who will be on-hand to answer questions. They are: Katherine G. McKnight, IRS Senior Tax Consultant with 22+ years of industry experience; Charo Boyd, SSA Public Affairs Assistant and 10+ year industry professional; CICOA’s Caitlin Oestreich, a community outreach options counselor; former senior living activities director, Joseph Everett, an active AARP district leader, US Air Force veteran and former SSA staffer of 23+ years; and Timothy Johnston, FPG Managing Associate and licensing professional.

This year marks the church’s 60th anniversary. Its mission is to advance the Kingdom of God through effective evangelism, discipleship and service. ZHBC is located at 5950 E. 46th St,
