I love it when I stumble upon a new restaurant and discover just how awesome it is.
Recently I ran into a lady who has known my family for years. We reconnected during a morning business engagement and afterward she asked, āWould you like to have lunch with me?ā
I immediately said yes. Our initial lunch location was closed for the day, but we continued down Indiana Avenue in search of afternoon nourishment. She saw Bourbon Street Distillery ahead and said, āWhy donāt we go there?ā I agreed.
I had passed by this bar and eatery many times, but never thought to stop and see what it was all about. Boy have I been missing out.
Since we were slightly ahead of the lunch rush, we entered, and found a seat immediately. Our server allowed us to settle in before coming over to get our drink orders.
Before we began to catch up, we quickly perused the menu for something satisfying. Bourbon Streetās house salad, complete with cucumber, candied pecans, golden raisins and bacon, sounded wonderful, but I wanted something more substantial.
They do offer items like bacon-wrapped tenderloin, hickory smoked pork chops and Cajun smothered chicken, but I didnāt want to have a meal that heavy. I almost ordered the blackened catfish poāboy, but instead opted for the grilled chicken sandwich.
If you havenāt noticed, Bourbon Street Distillery offers Creole and Cajun fare so you can find plenty of spice and flavor in their food. That was evident in my lunch companionās choice of the Cajun burger, with bold Cajun seasonings, mushrooms and Swiss cheese.
Other delicious offerings included crawfish etoufee, fish and chips and flame-grilled salmon.
Being that Bourbon Street Distillery doesnāt serve all items at lunch, Iām definitely going to have to go back after 4 p.m. to discover their expanded menu that has items such as shrimp diablo, chicken jambalaya and blackened prime rib.
I did opt for a more tame meal amidst all of the great Southern flavors Bourbon Street Distillery specializes in, but I must say my chicken sandwich was juicy and very flavorful.
Iām so glad I randomly came to eat at Bourbon Street Distillery. Iāve found a new place for lunch, dinner and of course another restaurant where I enjoyed good conversation and most importantly, good food.
