House Democratic leaders say a key committee will meet next week to start working on a budget proposal before the special legislative session starts June 11.
Democratic Rep. William Crawford of Indianapolis says members of his Ways and Means Committee will be invited to the Statehouse Tuesday to hear what Crawford calls “accurate” school funding numbers. Democrats dispute the GOP interpretation of how Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels’ budget proposal would affect schools.
The informal Ways and Means meeting is scheduled for the same day ā and the same room ā as a meeting for a bipartisan group of legislative leaders who were scheduled to work on the budget. But some Democrats walked out of that committee Thursday after criticizing Daniels and say they won’t come back.
