Former New Orleans, LA mayor Ray Nagin was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday. Nagin was ordered to report to federal prison on September 8 of this year. In February, he was charged with bribery and fraud among other related charges. In addition to the 10 year sentence, Nagin was ordered to pay restitution to the IRS in the amount of $82,000.
At a press conference following Wednesdayās sentencing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Coman said, “The damage that Ray Nagin inflicted upon this community … is incalculable. We as a community need not and should not accept public corruption.”
During the conference, Coman was joined by other members of the prosecution.Ā
