Governor Mike Pence named four appointments to the Accountability System Review Panel.
“A reliable and equitable system of accountability is imperative to a successful learning and teaching environment for Hoosier students and teachers across Indiana,” said Pence. “The individuals named today to the Accountability System Review Panel offer extensive experience in their fields and will provide the necessary perspective and insight to create a fair system that all Hoosier students, families, teachers and education administrators can embrace with confidence.”
Jim Snapp, Superintendent of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation since 2010, has been named to the Accountability System Review Panel. Snapp, of Brownsburg, has held a number of roles within education since the mid-1980s including Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction within the Franklin Township Community School Corporation, Principal of Center Grove Middle School North, and Curriculum Director within the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County. He currently serves on the School of Education Graduate Advisory Board at the University of Indianapolis and has served as Chair of the National Middle School Association’s Curriculum Council, President of the Indiana Middle Level Education Association, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Indiana Association of School Principals. Snapp earned his undergraduate degree, graduate degree in Educational Administration and Supervision, and doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Ball State University.
With nearly 20 years of experience in education, Stonybrook Intermediate School Principal Robert Lugo will serve on the panel. Lugo, of Indianapolis, previously served as Principal of Liberty Park Elementary School, which was named a National Blue Ribbon School under his leadership in 2008. He has also worked as Dean of Brookview Elementary School and as a counselor at both Creston Middle School and John Marshall Middle School. Lugo earned his graduate degree and his certificate in Educational Administration from Indiana University.
Casandra McLeod, of Indianapolis, has been appointed to the panel. A seventh and eighth grade teacher at KIPP Indianapolis College Preparatory, McLeod previously served as a peer tutor at the University of Pennsylvania. Committed to enabling all students through learning, McLeod has served as a volunteer for Girl’s Inc. of Greater Indianapolis, Trusted Mentors, School on Wheels and IndyReads: Opening Doors Through Adult Literacy. McLeod earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Purdue University and her graduate degree in Social Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Claire Fiddian-Green, Special Assistant to the Governor for Education Innovation and co-leader of the Center for Education and Career Innovation (CECI), will serve as the Governor’s Technical Advisor on the panel.
In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding issued last week establishing the Accountability System Review Panel, the panel will consist of 17 members. The Senate, House, Governor and the Indiana Department of Education will each name four members to the panel with Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz serving as co-chair of the group. The Accountability System Review Panel is required to compile a final report with recommendations in regard to the A-F accountability system no later than Nov. 1, 2013.
