More by this author

Carolene Mays-Medley executive director of White River State Park suffered an aneurysm Tuesday morning at her home. Mays-Medley was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery.

Doctors say while she still has a way to go in her recovery, the businesswoman is incredibly blessed to have survived such an incident. Currently, Mays-Medley is recovering at a local hospital. Heath care personnel are optimistic that she will make a full recovery.

“We are grateful for all the prayers and calls of support our family has received this week,” said Fred Medley, Mays-Medley’s husband. “Our family is God-centered and he continues to be our guiding light. I’d personally like to thank everyone for their concern and respect for our family’s privacy at this time. Please continue to lift Carolene up in your prayers.”

Mays-Medley was publisher of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper for 13 years before leaving in 2010 when then-Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed her to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. She also served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2002 – 2008. Currently, she is executive director of White River State Park.
