The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Family and Social Services Administration have confirmed employee layoffs, bringing the total number of state agency workers laid off to more than 400.
The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne reports that 19 employees were laid off from FSSA, mainly from its technology services division. The highway department last week confirmed 30 layoffs from a reorganization.
State Office of Management and Budget director Chris Ruhl says total state agency layoffs stand at 431 since July 2009.
Ruhl says 55 of the 431 workers were recalled for other positions for a net total of 376. That’s a little more than 1 percent of state agency workers.
Ruhl says most layoffs were needed to cut costs as the state deals with sagging tax revenue.
