INDIANAPOLIS – (October 13, 2010) Come be inspired and see what our students at Charity Dye Elementary IPS #27 have been working on the first six weeks of school.

This is a celebration of family and community as a part of our 2010-2011 Parent In Touch Teacher Conferences. This celebration, which was organized, developed, and planned by our 6th grade class, will feature games, activities, vendors, entertainment and food. Our 6th grade students will also be our host and hostesses for this celebration. This event will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 1:00pm until 8:00pm. The host site will be Charity Dye Elementary IPS #27 located at 545 East 19th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202, Mr. DaJuan Major, Principal.

Last year’s event was a great success. Our goal this year is to make it bigger and better. We have divided our 6th grade class into five committees (Food, Entertainment, Advertising, Activities, and Decorations), and we have paired students with our Community Partners and Community Council who serve as mentors and a support system for our students to help prepare for this celebratory event. Last year’s event kicked off with a Mobile Food Pantry, open to the community, held in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank and Foster Grandparent Program. Hundreds from the community were served while some had to be turned away because we ran out. There were grilled hot dogs and other snacks provided for students and their families. Our games, entertainment, and live DJ were held in the gymnasium. Several organizations including Indy Parks and Recreation, Citizens Health, and Kool Smiles set up booths and passed out information and treats to families and the community at large.

This will not be your regular Parent In Touch Conference. While parents will have the opportunity to discuss their child’s academic success with teachers, this event promises to be fun and fulfilling while giving back to the community. We want our students to be well rounded and educationally equipped for our society of today. We would like to invite your organization to this event for media coverage. We are hoping with your help in promoting and coverage of this event, that students will be shown in a positive manner giving back to our Indianapolis Community while in pursuit of a great education.
