IPS sports roundup: Attucks loses at semistate

More by this author

The final IPS boys basketball team in the state tournament field dropped just one game short of a shot at a championship when Crispus Attucks fell to Silver Creek at semistate March 16. The Tigers have won at least 20 games three straight seasons now, starting with their state title run in 2016-17.

An unfortunate ending, yes, but with the end of one sport comes the beginning of others. Weā€™re moving on to spring sports: baseball, softball, track and field, tennis and golf. Thatā€™s where weā€™ll go next week.

Attucks was down 37-27 at halftime after a back-and-forth first quarter. Junior SinCere McMahon hit a couple 3-pointers in the third quarter that helped Attucks climb out of its hole and take a 51-49 lead. McMahon finished with 21 points. The Tigersā€™ most potent threat was senior Harold Bennett, who scored 30 points in his final game at Attucks, including a half-court shot to beat the final buzzer. Attucks led 63-61 with 2:54 to play, but Silver Creek ended the game on a 9-3.
