Invent your own gourmet chili at Charlie and Barney’s

More by this author

Summer is usually associated with ice cream, popsicles and smoothies. While beating the heat, many wouldn’t say ‘hey lets get some chili.’ However, I will definitely be suggesting chili after tasting Charlie and Barney’s chili.

Upon arrival you are captivated by the beautiful buffet setup in the middle of the restaurant. There are servers ready to assist you and after your meal is received you’re invited to put whatever condiments you desire on the food. It reminded me of high school lunch, where you told the lunch ladies what you wanted, they place it on your tray and the rest is up to you.

I ordered the Chili and Franks ($6.25) and to say it was good is an understatement, it was truly delicious. I filled it with cheese, onions, sour cream, pepper and crackers. I was able to make my own “gourmet chili” – the name I came up with. I also ordered a perfectly chilled Root Beer ($1.89) and a scrumptious strawberry parfait – the dessert offered for the day.

What I especially loved was how clean and respectful the servers were. Everyone that arrived received a ‘hello, how are you?’ The greeting was meaningful; there is a huge difference between being courteous when you want to and when you have to. Good customer service is always appreciated.

Menu options include but are not limited to Chili Pie ($5.25), Chili Nachos ($5.95), and of course, the famous Chili Dog ($5.95) along with vegetarian options.

Salads are also available various options include Taco Salad ($5.95), Fiesta Salad ($5.95) and Chicken Caesar Salad ($5.95).

Charlie and Barney’s also offer soup of the day and sandwich of the day. Burgers are also options along with a bag of chips instead of the usual fries.

I was definitely impressed with my meal and will be planning to attend Charlie and Barney’s in the near future. Take it upon yourself to experience your own “gourmet chili.” You won’t be disappointed.
