An Indiana contracting company has received a major honor for its accomplishments.
Taylor Bros. Construction Co. was named the 2013 Contractor of the Year by Top Notch of Indiana, a labor management association within the union construction industry.
āIt is an honor to receive this award. Taylor Bros. has built a knowledgeable and dedicated team, focused on commitment to equality and integrity,ā said Jeff Chandler, vice president of Taylor Bros. Construction Co. āWe will continue to strive for improvement each year, with the goal of becoming an even better company for our customers, subcontractors and suppliers.ā
Michelle Boyd, executive director of Top Notch, says the Contractor of the Year award is part of an annual effort to recognize Indiana construction companies that are setting the bar high.
To win this award, contractors go through a strenuous application process, and after close evaluation a winner is chosen.
āThe jury was really impressed with the type of attention to detail that (Taylor Bros.) gives when it forms partnerships,ā said Boyd. āTheyāre really creative in the way they form the partnerships, which allow them to do work in different areas of the state.ā
Boyd says although Taylor Bros. is not from Indianapolis, their company is well represented throughout several regions of the state.
āOur group was really impressed with the amount of time and energy they get among their staff and their leadership in making sure they are building strong relationships through the construction industry. It really shows in their work,ā said Boyd.
Tonya Paradise, who works in marketing at Taylor Bros., gave a little more insight about the company and what it does.
āWe are a construction manager general contractor (providing both construction management services and general contracting services) and we travel all over the United States,ā said Paradise. āWe do a lot of retail work for clients such as Target, CVS, Speedway ā¦ and then we do local work too.ā
Taylor Bros. has been in business for 80 years and was started as a small construction company between two brothers.
Luke Taylor and his sons A. Dean and Virgil Taylor established the company in 1946. After Luke Taylor retired, he left the business to his sons.
They became part of the Harmon Group in 1992, a family-owned and operated group of companies that provide construction services throughout Indiana.
This alliance has allowed Taylor Bros. to offer a greater variety of services that are enhanced with their increased knowledge about steel.
Along with their construction services, Taylor Bros. also does philanthropy work, raising money for families in the community through The Joy of Giving.
Paradise says The Joy of Giving started in 2005 as a friendly competition between the three companies of the Harmon Group to see who could raise the most money.
The owners of the three companies would match whatever the employees raised, but eventually the companies raised so much money, the owners stopped matching and formed a 501c3 organization.
Together, the companies organize different activities each year to raise money such as golf outings and motorcycle rides. One year they raised $80,000 for families.
Taylor Bros. Construction Co. are looking forward to reaching even great heights in construction and philanthropy.
