Taco and Burrito Place anything but ordinary

More by this author

Excellent, well prepared, Mexican food has a way of not only satisfying your hunger, but also making you feel lively again.

Therefore, when looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try, I decided to search carefully. Fortunately, I ended up seeing The Taco and Burrito Place on North Keystone Avenue. At first, I had doubts, wondering aloud to myself, ā€œHow special could the tacos be with a mundane name like that?ā€

Upon entering the Taco & Burrito Place, however, I immediately knew that both the experience and the food would be anything but ordinary.

The restaurant is very clean and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere ā€“ kind of how you would imagine a longtime restaurant in your neighborhood being. Staff members are friendly and seem to really enjoy the work that they do, trading jokes and updates with individuals who appear to be repeat customers.

Of course, the Taco and Burrito Place offers all of the traditional Mexican favorites, such as tacos (with various toppings), large burritos, taco salads, regular nachos (with cheese and peppers) and fajitas.

The restaurant also has what it calls ā€œSuper Nachosā€, which comes with your choice of either ground beef, chicken or steak and topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, onions and hot sauce or cilantro.

Man, those nachos were extremely tempting, but I decided to order a couple of chorizo (Mexican sausage) tacos and a cup of rice to launch my experience at the restaurant. My line of thinking was, ā€œLet me try a couple of small things first, and if I like those, Iā€™ll order something else.ā€

Did you know that those two tacos and rice actually ended up being enough for lunch? I was satisfied with those and a drink for less than $5. How do you like that?

Of course, I did order those nachos to-go to enjoy later.

Among the neat choices that are available are the restaurantā€™s beverage options, which include regular soft drinks, coffee, Jarritos, a popular tropical fruit flavored drink made in Mexico, sangria, a Spanish wine punch and Horchata, a unique drink sold in Spanish speaking countries that usually includes a mix of ground almonds, sesame seeds, rice, barley, tiger nuts and sometimes cinnamon or vanilla.

All of the options on the Taco and Burrito Placeā€™s menu are reasonably priced, and judging by what I ordered and the items that other customers had, the portions are generous.

Now I know where to go whenever I need a friendly, Mexican culinary oasis. Taco and Burrito Place is definitely on my list of places to revisit soon.
