Indiana Fever forward Shyra Ely-Gash will miss the 2013 WNBA season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon in her right foot sustained last week in practice.
A local graduate of Ben Davis High School and a former Indiana Miss Basketball, Ely-Gash joined her hometown team in 2011. She had hoped to play in her seventh WNBA season, but for the second straight year lost that opportunity due to injury. Last May, she tore her left ACL to end hopes of competing in 2012.
Ely-Gash averaged over 10 minutes per game while playing in 33 of 34 contests for the Fever in 2011. She averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. She also missed the 2010 WNBA season due to a ruptured right patellar tendon.
