Indianapolis, IN (February 13, 2013) — OrthoIndy announced that OrthoIndy trauma care is now exclusively available at St. Vincent Indianapolis. OrthoIndy has provided orthopaedic trauma services at Methodist for nearly 50 years. As those services come to an end, OrthoIndy will now bring its entire trauma team and decades of combined experience with its excellent reputation to the St. Vincent Trauma Center.

OrthoIndy and St. Vincent Health share the same mission to deliver the highest level of orthopaedic care for Indiana patients and families. OrthoIndy trauma surgeons are fellowship-trained in orthopaedic traumatology, and can quickly and accurately provide a diagnosis and stabilize a fracture or manage a soft tissue injury, in order to maximize function.

OrthoIndy trauma surgeons now available at the St. Vincent Trauma Center include: Drs. Joseph Baele, Renn Crichlow, Gregory Dikos, Bradley Jelen, David Kaehr, Dean Maar, Greg Reveal and Timothy Weber.

“The OrthoIndy trauma team is excited about our new partnership with St. Vincent,” said Dr. Dean Maar, OrthoIndy trauma surgeon and Co-Medical Director of OrthoIndy Trauma Program. “OrthoIndy started transitioning trauma coverage to St.Vincent four years ago. As of February, St. Vincent now has the largest orthopaedic trauma team in the state and one of the largest in the country. We look forward to providing trauma care to our patients at St.Vincent facilities.”

St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital recently earned verification by the American College of Surgeons as a Trauma Center. The designation represents the faith-based hospital’s commitment to building an exemplary trauma program. To ensure verification, St. Vincent renovated space for trauma/surgical and neuroscience intensive care units (ICU) and added CT scan imaging modalities. The hospital also has a dedicated trauma operating room, and added in-house coverage for trauma surgery, anesthesia, critical care, radiology and hospitalist programs.

In addition, St. Vincent Health created an affiliation agreement with PHI Air Medical creating the critical care transport brand – StatFlight. The partnership assists in the stabilization and transportation of trauma patients by air to St. Vincent or other advanced tertiary care facilities. St. Vincent StatFlight has five medical helicopters located in Anderson, Danville, North Vernon, Rushville and West Lafayette.

“The inclusion of the OrthoIndy trauma surgeons compliments our recent verification as a Trauma Center,” said Jane Whinnery, director of St. Vincent Trauma Services. “Through the partnership, patients, families and EMS providers will have access to the state’s top orthopaedic-trauma care team and the best possible outcomes at St.Vincent.”

For a number of years, OrthoIndy physicians have had orthopaedic surgery privileges at St. Vincent Health hospitals and participated in the Sports Performance program. In 2009, OrthoIndy announced an official partnership with St. Vincent Health to increase access to orthopaedic services for patients and families throughout Indiana.
