Next Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper will hold its annual Community Health and Wellness Fair. The fair will be held at Ivy Tech Community College’s downtown Indianapolis location in the Illinois Fall Creek Building, 50 W. Fall Creek Parkway N., from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by Eskenazi Health, is open to all and admission is free. Other event sponsors are Franciscan St. Francis Health, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Light of the World Christian Church and Managed Health Services.
Free vision, STD, chiropractic and other health screenings will be offered, complimentary healthy snacks and souvenir bags will be given out, and participants are encouraged to participate in free Zumba, yoga and personal training demonstrations. Additionally, a panel discussion will be led by health care professionals from Eskenazi.
“It is all too often that young adults neglect their total health,” said Indianapolis Recorder President Shannon Williams. “Nearly 50 percent of preventable sexual diseases and infections are spread among young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Whether this concentration is due to a lack of resources or lack of knowledge, the responsibility remains on community-based organizations like the Recorder to normalize conversations that stress the importance of listening to our bodies to achieve overall health and well-being. The Community Health and Wellness Fair is our way of achieving that.”
