Most people realize their talent all by themselves, but 16-year-old actor Philip Helms was pushed into his dreams.
“My mom made me go to Performing Arts Camp. I didn’t want to go,” said Helms “Later I discovered it was fun and I enjoyed it.”
Starring in productions like Streetcar Name Desire, Shakespeare Comedy of Errors, and Hamlet. Helms prove to be a talented actor taking the part of a senior his freshman year. He stresses perfect practice makes perfect.
“When I first get on stage, right before the show my heart beats really fast and I become so hot. I’ve done (acting) a million times but I feel anxious. However, once I get on stage and recite my lines (anxiety) eases off me,” Helms said.
He explained that he loves comedy over any other genre because comedy makes people forget how bad life may be…besides, he said, everyone enjoys a good laugh.
Denzel Washington is Helms’ favorite actor because of his versatility in every role. He even confesses that people believe he looks like the famous actor.
“I think he’s amazing I would love to be famous, do a lot of movies and find that big break,” added Helms. “Until then I’m just chasing a dream.”
