Free food for community

More by this author

Captain Jays Fish and Chicken is opening locations in Indianapolis and to celebrate, the restaurant will be giving out free food to the first 500 people during a grand opening April 30 at 10:30 a.m. at its 3802 N. Kenwood Ave. location.

“Nobody will have to hear any speeches or anything, they just want to meet people in the area,” said Byron Alston, community consultant for Captain Jays. “This area has dealt with high crime and other difficult challenges, and we just think people would appreciate a business that invests in the community.”

Another round of free items will be given on May 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the 3833 N. Keystone Ave location.

Alston said Captain Jays is committed to be an active part of improving the neighborhoods surrounding their locations, and has pledged to hire people from the area, and donate $2 of every $10 earned to scholarships for students.
