Manning will not play Sunday

It’s official. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning won’t play Sunday at Houston. He has been slowed through training camp and the preseason from neck surgery.

Manning has started in 208 consecutive games and has only missed one snap in 13 seasons.

“To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement,” it read. “The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans.”

He continued, “I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they will miss me.”

Colts vice chairman Bill Polian was asked on a New York radio show if Manning could miss the entire season.

“I don’t know, I honestly don’t know,” Polian said. “The doctors tell you that these things have a way of speedily recovering when the nerve regenerates. But you have no way of knowing when it will.”
