The control and prevention of STDs and HIV is the topic of an April 20 national conference co-sponsored by the Marion County Public Health Department, Indiana University School of Medicine, University of Cincinnati and the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center – Indiana.

“This conference brings nationally and locally recognized experts in STDs to discuss the latest in STD diagnosis and treatment,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Public Health Department.

Designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, HIV/STD educators, social workers, other health professionals and the general public, the daylong conference will touch on topics from STD treatment guidelines to HIV in pediatric and adult patients.

Another area of discussion will include the challenge of integrating prevention, intervention, clinical services and community resources.

“The overall goal of this conference is to provide an opportunity for professionals and community members to discuss and share successes and common concerns in developing hope for the future,” said Janet Arno, M.D., medical director for the Bell Flower Clinic.

The conference will be held at the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis Campus Center.
