Rib America Festival presented by Indiana Pork Farmers has announced that the Indianapolis Fire Department and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will be squaring off on Saturday, Sept. 3 in a heated competition to determine once and for all which Public Safety Division holds the edge on the city’s best “Badged” barbecue.
Local celebrities will judge the competition and announce which division can add “Best Ribs” to their resume. The winner will not only get bragging rights for the entire year, they will also receive a monetary donation for the charity of their choice. The event will be from noon to 3 p.m.
Rib America Festival attendees are encouraged to come out to show support for their favorite police or fire rib recipe.
The Michaelis Corp. is sponsoring the event and will furnish the winning team with their donation. The Indianapolis Fire Department will be competing for the Peoples Burn Foundation, while the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has selected the Special Olympics.
The 16th annual Rib America Festival returns to downtown Indianapolis Sept. 2-5, at 11 a.m. daily. The event is held at Military Park at White River State Park at the crossing of New York and West Streets.
Eleven of the best award winning barbecue teams from across the country will be serving up their finest all weekend long.
Ticket Information: Free admission before 5 p.m. on Friday and before 2 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Admission charge is $7 (which includes concerts) after 5 p.m. on Friday and after 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Children 12 & under are free.
