More by this author

Republic Airways said Monday that traffic more than doubled in November on the acquisition of Frontier and Midwest airlines.

Paying passengers flew 1.6 billion miles last month, up from 727 million in November 2008. About 44 percent of those miles were on Frontier.

The company said its passenger-carrying capacity doubled, to 2.11 billion available seat miles. A seat mile is one seat flown one mile.

Load factor, or average occupancy on flights, rose to 75.6 percent from 68.8 percent a year earlier, the company said.

For the year so far, Republic said traffic was up 25.4 percent, capacity rose 22.9 percent, and average occupancy increased to 75.2 percent from 73.7 percent in the same period last year.

Republic began including Frontier in its statistics beginning Oct. 1, Midwest Airlines on Aug. 1, and Mokulele Airlines from July 1 to Oct. 14.

Parent Republic Airways Holdings Inc., based in Indianapolis, also owns Chautauqua Airlines, Lynx Aviation, and Shuttle America.

Shares fell 5 cents to $8.02 in morning trading.
