Ivy Tech Community College’s Workforce Certification Centers had a record year, administering more exams than any other institution in the state. Ivy Tech administered 43,775 certification exams throughout the 2009-2010 school year.
Ivy Tech offers more than 4,000 exams at 24 certification centers statewide. The certification centers are designed to help students in both credit courses and non-credit training advance their careers by providing documentation of their skills and knowledge in the form of a certificate.
“As the job market becomes more competitive, certifications are becoming more important to job seekers,” said Susan Brooks, senior vice president for Workforce and Economic Development. “Certifications can help provide an edge over non-certified job seekers, which accounts for much of the growth we’ve seen recently.”
Certification testing is available in a variety of fields including information technology, health services, office administration, insurance, fire science, food safety and more.
Ivy Tech is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system, serving nearly 200,000 students annually.
