On July 22, several events will be taking place as part of the Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference. In addition to many presentations and panels taking place throughout the day, a historical marker dedication will take place at Washington Park at 4:30 p.m.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m. there will be a pre-game all you-can-eat picnic buffet at Victory Field, which will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled barbecue chicken, side orders, soft drinks and beer. Following the picnic will be an event honoring players at Victory Field at 6:45 p.m. Tickets for the picnic buffet are $16 per person. Box seat tickets for the 7:15 p.m. game against the Rochester Red Wings are $12.
The annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference is hosted by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR’S) Negro League Committee.

Wine Trail event features BBQ pairings
Six Central Indiana wineries will feature wines and barbecue perfect on July 16 and 17.
Participating wineries include Buck Creek Winery (Indianapolis), Chateau Thomas Winery (Plainfield), Easley Winery (Indianapolis), New Day Meadery (Indianapolis), Mallow Run Winery (Bargersville), and Simmons Winery (Columbus).
Customers can visit each winery from noon to 6 p.m. during the event to enjoy different barbecue meals and one glass of wine at each winery.
Adult tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased at the Indy Wine Trail wineries.

The search is on for the Face of MyINDY-TV. Do you have what it takes?

Auditions for mystery play July 20-21
Auditions for “From Dark Pages,” a progressive mystery play to be held in October at the Morris-Butler House, will take place at the Morris-Butler House July 20-21 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Organizers are looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer cast and crew. If you can wield an axe convincingly or do a Sherlock Holmes impersonation, Indiana Landmarks invites you to audition for the October run of “From Dark Pages.” Those auditioning should expect to read from the show’s script.
The annual progressive play leads audience members upstairs, downstairs and all around the Morris-Butler House. Along the way, visitors meet well-known 19th-century characters from both life and literature.
Performance dates are Friday and Saturday evenings Oct. 7 through 29.

Free movies, music and fun times in Indy Parks
Celebrate the performing arts this summer as Indy Parks produces a full season of outdoor music, movies and more near you.
A community rap and hip-hop concert featuring neighborhood artists sharing their talents with the community will headline the Indy Parks 100 Year Celebration event at Windsor Park July 30 at 2 p.m.
Indy Parks also will host three presentations of “Is That Your āReel’ Hair?” by Tiffanie Bridges at family centers in July, starting with Rhodius Park, 1720 W. Wilkins St., at 6 p.m. July 16, Washington Park, 3130 E. 30th St., at 2 p.m. July 29 and again at Douglass Park, 1616 E. 25th St., at 6 p.m. July 29.
“Jazz on the Point” continues at Eagle Creek Park Marina with Icarus Ensemble July 20 and Blackberry Jam performing July 27. All concerts are free (park entrance fees still apply) and start at 6:30 p.m.
The “Pops” series at the Garfield Park MacAllister Amphitheater will feature the Indianapolis Municipal Band on July 21. The series concludes with the Pride of Indy Band and Jazz Ensemble July 28. Concerts begin at 7 p.m.
The Broad Ripple Park “Original Music Series” will continue with The Black Lillies, an Americana band from Knoxville Tenn., as they pass through Indianapolis on their Midwest tour July 22. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
The concert season continues at Holliday Park with Living Proof July 28 at 7 p.m.
Also free in July is the Irvington Artist Series at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair St. It will feature The Brains Behind Pa at 5 p.m., July 16.
The blues and jazz series at Watkins Park, 2360 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., will have Billy Wooten and Vida Bole July 31. The concert begins at 5 p.m.
Don’t forget the free “beat the heat” movies in the parks in July. “The Karate Kid” (2010) will be featured July 18 at Brookside Park, 3500 Brookside Parkway S. Dr., and “Megamind” will be the feature at Windsor Park, 2501 Kenyon Ave., on July 25. Movies are indoors and begin at 3 p.m.
Free concert by Symphonic Band
The Indianapolis Symphonic Band will play a free concert at Fort Harrison State Park on the sledding hill July 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Bring the kids, a picnic, a blanket or chairs and listen to “Disney Around the World,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Wonderful World of Disney” and a whole lot more.
