Leadership Indianapolis, Recorder partner to provide scholarships

More by this author

Beginning this year, the Indianapolis Recorder, in partnership with Leadership Indianapolis, will be sponsoring scholarships for people of color to Leadership Indianapolis programs. Two scholarships will be available for Opportunity Indianapolis in May and two scholarships for LEAD in June.

“The Recorder is committed to providing civic leadership development opportunities to people of color in Indy, and Leadership Indianapolis’ programs are the perfect way to help bring more diversity into that arena,” noted Recorder President Shannon Williams.

LEAD is a skills development program, offering participants the opportunity to build their collaborative civic leadership skills and become more effective in their community work. Participants learn how to build trust, motivate team members and manage conflict while also building their own confidence to lead. LEAD is ideal for both emerging and experienced leaders — anyone who wants to build their effectiveness as a civic and organizational leader.

Opportunity Indianapolis is a unique two-day program that offers an introduction to the places, leaders and issues of Indianapolis. Participants hop on a bus for a field trip around town to meet with community leaders and learn about opportunities for getting more involved in addressing civic issues. This program is perfect for people who are new to the city or new to their jobs and want to get engaged in community leadership opportunities.

Scholarship applications for OI have closed. Applications for LEAD will be accepted until April 7. To apply click here
