WHHH-FM (96.3) Indianapolis’ urban mainstream radio station has received Indiana’s top radio broadcast award. Hot 96.3 was named “Radio Station of the Year” by the Indiana Broadcasters Association during its 26th annual Spectrum Awards ceremony.

The awards annually honor the best achievements by Indiana broadcasters during the preceding 12 months.

It was the second time in five years that Hot 96.3 was named Indianapolis Radio Station of the year. The station’s first such honor occurred in 2009.

“The Hot 96.3 team has been lighting up Indianapolis year after year. It is really great to see the whole team recognized as the leaders in Indianapolis,” said Charles Williams, the station’s vice president and general manager.

The station says it has entertained, served and informed Indianapolis and Central Indiana with its unique mix of entertaining on air personalities and innovative community involvement and service for 22 years. It is Indianapolis’ second longest serving contemporary music station.

With a lineup of nationally syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show and dominate local personalities DJ Wrekk 1, Jay Rio and B Swift, Hot 96.3’s mix of all hip-hop and R&B has attracted a diverse audience, typically placing No. 1 in adults 18 to 49 and 18 to 34.

Radio One, which owns WHHH-FM, together with its subsidiaries, is a diversified media company that primarily targets African-American and urban consumers. The company is one of the nation’s largest radio broadcasting companies, currently owning and/or operating 54 broadcast stations located in 16 urban markets in the U.S.

Through its controlling interest in Reach Media, Inc., the company also operates syndicated programming, including the Tom Joyner Morning Show, the Russ Parr Morning Show, the Yolanda Adams Morning Show, the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Bishop T.D. Jakes’ “Empowering Moments” and the Rev. Al Sharpton Show.

Beyond its core radio broadcasting franchise, Radio One owns Interactive One, an online platform serving the African-American community through social content, news, information and entertainment. Interactive One operates a number of sites, including News One, The Urban Daily, and Hello Beautiful, and social networking websites, including BlackPlanet, MiGente, and Asian Avenue.

In addition, the company owns a controlling interest in TV One LLC, a cable/satellite network programming primarily to African-Americans.
