A consortium of Midwest universities, which included Martin University, will benefit from a grant distribution announced in our nation’s capital this week involving millions of dollars to advance research and education programs that address critical transportation challenges facing our nation.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the distribution of $77 million in grants to 22 University Transportations Centers (UTCs).
The other universities to benefit include: Purdue University, Central State University, Ohio State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Trine University, University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin.
“This is terrific news for Martin University,” said acting President Charlotte Westerhaus-Renfrow. “Our students and faculty will use this grant money to perform research on such issues as rail corridors, innovations in multimodal freight and infrastructure, bridge inspection methods and reducing roadway fatalities and injuries. We are very pleased to be part of this consortium and are excited to begin working on these essential issues that affect us locally, regionally and nationally.”
