Resident of the northeast of Indianapolis are being invited and strongly encouraged to participate in a Neighborhood Health Gathering to develop ideas on improving the health of people in their area.
(Note: Citizens who are considered residents of the Northeast area are those who have the zip codes 46201, 46218, 46205 and 46226.)
The Gathering, which is free event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gathertorium of the Martin University, 2171 Avondale Place near 21st and Sherman Dr.
A complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided each participant.
Ron Gibson, former City-County Councilman and president of the Devington Communities Association, said leaders of the Neighborhood Health Gathering want to hear from residents about how they can stay healthy, deal with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, stroke, or teen addictions.
“This gathering gives us the opportunity to ensure that health issues and concerns are addressed for the betterment of our communities,” Gibson said.
Leaders also want to discuss with residents how to improve relationships with caring professionals working within a complex, often impersonal, health-care system.
Free, safe and convenient parking will be provided in the east parking lot located near the globe sculpture at Martin University.
Dr. Virginia Caine, head of the Marion County Health Department, will be the lead speaker at the Gathering.
Those who wish to participate should contact the Neighborhood Health Gathering planning team no later than Tuesday, September 6 by calling 379-2722 or by e-mail at bhikelly@yahoo.com to reserve their spot at this important neighborhood event.
