God’s Child Entertainment

Exciting days could be ahead for God’s Child Entertainment, the city’s newest recording and artist management company.

The company is currently promoting artists who will help it reach the goal of creating gospel music that is spiritually inspiring, but also hip and appealing to fans of both contemporary and traditional styles.

“We’re just trying to save souls and help people get to know God in a real way,” said Michael Bowens, CEO of God’s Child Entertainment. “But we want to bring the message in a way that people who like regular gospel music and people from the secular culture can appreciate at the same time.”

Bowens, who began his career in the music industry as a concert promoter, formed God’s Child Entertainment in December as a gospel complement to his R&B/hip-hop label, Ruff Child Entertainment.

Ruff Child Entertainment has already launched the careers of artists who have experienced tremendous regional success, most notably R&B singer G-Labeaud.

Singer Sharon “Bunnie” Moore, a veteran of the local gospel music scene who has appeared in several theater productions, encouraged Bowens to form a similar company to help gospel artists who need financial investment and recording resources to expand their music ministries. Having already enjoyed several ventures in the secular arena, Bowens and his business partners felt a strong calling from God to encourage people through gospel music.

Following two years of considering whether a new label was necessary in the already crowded gospel industry, Bowens agreed to form God’s Child Entertainment.

Moore and Minister Darrel Harris became the first artists signed to the new company and Bowens is currently looking for other individuals or groups to produce.

“It’s a company that I feel like the Lord is going to develop into something great,” Moore said. It’s a new company and as you know record companies are not as strong these days as they have once been because so many people are getting music from Internet downloads and iPods. It’s a baby company, but I believe God’s Child Entertainment will become one of the premiere companies in the Midwest.”

For the summer, God’s Child Entertainment is preparing the release of a new CD and live DVD performance of a concert Moore recently held at New Life Worship Center in Indianapolis. She is also one of several artists scheduled to perform during the free Indianapolis Recorder’s third annual Coming Together With Praise concert on April 20 at the Walker Theatre.

Tiffany Porter, administrative coordinator for God’s Child Entertainment, believes the company will stand apart from other labels as it develops.

“I think one of the things that will make us unique is our approach with the market variety of ages we’re trying to reach,” said Porter. “We’re committed to keeping God front and center and reaching everyone from the streets to the penthouses.”

Bowens noted that artists who sign to God’s Child Entertainment would appreciate the company’s commitment to treating them with fairness and its devotion to quality material.

“We want more good artists on our label,” said Bowens. “Our goal is to become one of America’s premiere recording companies. We are ready to take gospel music, and music in general, to another level.”
