There was a lull during the transition from 2018 to 2019, including on my end. But a more normal winter sports schedule does happen to coincide with my more normal work schedule, so here we are. I donāt think any major narratives about these teams have shifted. Weāre still looking at Shortridge girls and Crispus Attucks boys leading the way.
Girls Basketball
Crispus Attucks (3-11)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Did Not Play
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 7 ā Crispus Attucks 46, Shortridge 36
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 8 ā at Heritage Christian, 7:30 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 12 ā at Roncalli, 7:30 p.m.
Iām late with this weekās roundup, which is why āThis Weekā has a game thatās already been played. But major props to Attucks for beating Shortridge, which has easily been the most impressive IPS girls team this season.
Arsenal Tech (0-16)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 4 ā Harrison (West Lafayette) 90, Arsenal Tech 3
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 7 ā Scecina 40, Arsenal Tech 20
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 12 ā at Kokomo, 6 p.m.
Tech is running out of time to pick up a win. The Titans have five regular-season games left.
George Washington (2-10)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 1 ā Manual 64, George Washington 46
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 7 ā Covenant Christian 78, George Washington 20
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 11 ā at Shortridge, 5 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 12 ā at Sheridan, noon
Hereās the deal with Washington: When the Continentals lose one game, theyāre about to lose the next. So far this season they havenāt been able to stop the skid at a single loss.
Shortridge (8-7)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 3 ā Arsenal Tech 60, Purdue Poly 11
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Crispus Attucks 46, Shortridge 36
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 10 ā at Central Christian, 6 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 11 ā vs. George Washington, 5 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 12 ā Pioneer Conference playoffs
Shortridge continues to set the bar for IPS girls, even with a loss to Attucks. Iām looking forward to seeing what happens against Washington on the 11th.
Boys Basketball
Crispus Attucks (10-3)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 4 ā Crispus Attucks 95, Urbana (Illinois) 81
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ No Games Scheduled
Attucks is off this week before starting the city tournament Jan. 14. The Tigers are heavy favorites in that tournament, and an entire week of rest and preparation shouldnāt do anything to hurt that.
Arsenal Tech (3-6)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 4 ā Arsenal Tech 67, Harrison (West Lafayette) 53
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 8 ā vs. Fishers, 7:30 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 11 ā at Marion, 7:30 p.m.
After losing six in a row to start the season, Tech has ripped off three straight wins. The Titansā two games this week are against quality opponents, but theyāre not insurmountable.
George Washington (5-5)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 4 ā Manual 82, George Washington 45
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 11 ā at Shortridge, 7:30 p.m.
For the first time this season, Washington has lost two games in a row. Still, this is a team Iāll continue to tell people to pay attention to.
Shortridge (3-6)
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 5 ā Shortridge 59, Greenwood Christian 58
This Week:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 10 ā at Central Christian, 7:30 p.m.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā¢ Jan. 11 ā vs. George Washington, 7:30 p.m.
Shortridge still has a ways to go, but its one-point win over Greenwood Christian did end a four-game losing streak.
