The public is invited to a meeting on May 19 hosted by the city’s Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) and the Lafayette Square Area Coalition (LSAC) on the International Marketplace Gateway Plan.
The Lafayette Square Area: An International Marketplace is located on the Northwestside.
It is bounded by I-65 to the north and east, Moller Road to the west and 38th Street to the south. It is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Indianapolis, with more than 70 languages represented.
The upcoming meeting will include presentations of a summary of the public input obtained from a March 5 open house, district evaluation information, and preliminary recommendations for gateway options and the future of the Community Revitalization & Enhancement District (CRED). Concept renderings will be shown at the meeting.
The International Marketplace Plan developed a vision for the neighborhood and recommended a gateway project as one way to improve the aesthetics of the area. A gateway is a landmark, feature or streetscape that a resident or visitor first sees upon entering a particular area.
The May 19 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. There will be a formal presentation from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by an informal open house from 7 to 8 p.m.
The meeting will be in Big Car Service Center for Contemporary Culture + Community, 3919 Lafayette Road.
Information updates are available on LSAC’s web site at www.lafayettesquareareacoalition.org .
