Lots of flavor going on at Miller’s Pizza and Sub Shop

Pendleton Pike is one of the most traveled streets in Marion County. No matter what time of day or night you’re on it, you must be watchful of the busy traffic.

In navigating all the hustle and bustle, however, it might be easy to overlook Miller’s Pizza and Sub Shop.

If you pass up Miller’s, turn around because you’re in for a treat.

On the outside, Miller’s looks almost industrial with basic brown brick and simple white and blue signage. Given this, you might wonder if the food will also be basic, but no need for concern; once inside you’ll see that the priority is not a jazzy exterior, but having a comfortable and extremely clean interior. If you drop a piece of food on one of the spotless tables, you might just decide to go ahead and eat it anyway.

A family owned restaurant established in 2002, Miller’s specializes in pizzas, submarine sandwiches and calzones (a turnover stuffed with tomato or cheese sauce and various ingredients).

Customers can order whole pizzas, or order them by the slice with a choice of any traditional topping options. During lunchtime they may also take advantage of a pizza buffet, which allows them to pile their plate up with slices of a variety of different types of pizza, from a pepperoni, bacon and mushroom combination, to a Hawaiian-style surprise with ham and pineapple.

Examples of calzone options include the stromboli (pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, green peppers and cheese), and the chicken roll (chicken breast, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and cheese), both of which can be made into a combo with the addition of a side salad and drink.

Perhaps Miller’s most popular items, however, are its subs and sandwiches. One of the most frequently ordered items at the restaurant, I was told, is the steak and cheese sub, which has often been described as close to a real Philly or New York cheese steak sub as Indiana can come.

Other sub highlights are the chicken salad, ham and cheese, turkey, teriyaki steak and cheese and hot Italian.

To round out your meal, side items are available such as french fries, onion rings, chili cheese fries, chicken strips, wings and breadsticks (pepperoni, cheese or cinnamon). Those who are carefully watching their health and weight might try one of several salads.

If you have enough room for dessert, options include cookies, brownies and cheesecake.

Since I was not at Miller’s during buffet hours and have already tried a host of other pizza joints, I decided to go for the stromboli, which was a steal at $5.29. Some strombolis can be too bland or have too much sauce in them, but the one I had at Miller’s had just the right combination and amount of ingredients, leading to a flavorful experience that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Miller’s always seems to have some kind of good special taking place that you will discover either inside the restaurant or online at its web site.

In general, however, prices are affordable, with 8-inch subs being available for a little more than $4.

Also, Miller’s provides delivery and can arrange party entrees for large gatherings, so give them a chance to meet your culinary needs today.
