Storytelling Arts of Indiana’s 2026 Frank Basile Emerging Stories Fellow, Sheila Spencer, will premiere an original performance exploring family, caregiving, identity and legacy on Nov. 8 in Indianapolis.

Titled “What We Carry: Stories of Care, Legacy, and Becoming,” the performance will combine personal storytelling, poetry and humor to examine how family experiences, memories and responsibilities shape individuals and future generations.
The program will explore themes of love, resilience, responsibility and letting go through stories drawn from Spencer’s lived experiences. Audiences can attend in person at the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 W. Ohio St., or watch a livestream through Zoom.
Spencer is a storyteller, spoken-word artist, author, educator and workshop facilitator. She is the co-editor of “Connections: Tell Your Story — A Family Anthology of Heritage, Gifts, and Legacy” and author of several books, including “For Those Who Care: Reflections to Nourish the Caregiver.”
The Frank Basile Emerging Stories Fellowship is an annual program that supports Indiana storytellers in developing and premiering original material. The fellowship is supported by Frank and Katrina Basile.
The performance begins at 4 p.m. on Nov. 8 online via Zoom and at the Indiana History Center, 450 W. Ohio Street in Indianapolis. General admission tickets are $20, student tickets are $10, and livestream access is $15. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at StorytellingArts.org.
