
Local author Ashley C. Ford will deliver the Keynote at the 2025 Gathering of Writers.
Hosted by the Indiana Writers Center (IWC), the annual Gathering of Writers takes place from 8:25 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Indiana State Library. Ford, author of the New York Times bestselling memoir “Somebody’s Daughter,” will deliver the keynote address, “Imagine the Future of Art in Indiana,” before leading a breakout writing session among two additional esteemed writers, according to a press release.
“The Indiana Writers Center is proud to once again bring The Gathering of Writers to the Indiana State Library,” Sarah K. Ginter, executive director of the IWC, said in a statement. “This event is open to writers of all experience levels. Our goal is to help you write your story because language is powerful, and creative community is vital to all artists.”

In addition to Ford, the 2025 Gathering of Writers presenters include Agata Izabela Brewer, Andrew Black, Anthony Borruso, Angela Jackson-Brown, Mitchell L.H. Douglas, Melissa Fraterrigo, Sarah Layden, Lylanne Musselman, Max Newman, Nick Reading, Barbara Shoup and Natalie Tombasco.
Attendees may choose from various writing topics in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, cross-genre writing, oral storytelling and more. The Gathering of Writers’ mission is to allow local writers and creatives to leave “full of inspiration, armed with writing drafts ripe for experimentation,” according to a press release.
The 2025 Gathering of Writers is supported by the Indiana Center for the Book as well as grants from the Indiana Arts Commission, Indy Arts Council and Allen Whitehill Clowes.
The 2025 Gathering of Writers takes place Sept. 27 at the Indiana State Library, 315 W. Ohio St.. Doors open at 8:25 a.m. and Ford’s Keynote address will begin at 8:55 a.m.
Tickets are $137 for Writer/Reader members; $123 for teachers, students, seniors, military and librarian members; and $200 for nonmembers. Parking, and lunch from the Illinois Street Emporium, is provided.
