Comedian Mike Epps and his wife, TV producer Kyra Epps, are no strangers to house flipping, and next spring they’re bringing their talents home to Indianapolis with a new HGTV show.
The home improvement show, “Buying Back the Block,” is set to premiere in spring 2023, Kyra Epps announced in an Instagram post Sept. 9.
“We’ve been fixing houses the last two summers,” Kyra Epps said in an Instagram post. “Now excited to say this time around its going to be on @hgtv wow wow wow! Our Show – ‘Buying Back the Block coming spring 23.”
Mike Epps’ hometown, Indianapolis, was tagged in the post, implying the couple’s show would likely film here in the city.
However, this isn’t the first time Epps has tried his hand at home improvement in Indianapolis or even voiced his thoughts about gentrification in predominantly Black neighborhoods. In August 2020, Epps posted before and after photos of a property he owned and restored on Carrolton Avenue near Indianapolis’ Fall Creek neighborhood — based on hashtags on the post.
“A lot of people claim a Hood a city or a block but don’t own it,” he wrote in the Instagram post, “this is my block in Indiana the before and after with family and friends in the homes they movin us out of our community’s [sic] at a rapid pace.”
