The Department of Code Enforcement (DCE) announced that taxicab rates for trips beginning or ending in the downtown area will have fixed rates for the days surrounding Super Bowl weekend.
The rates, approved after public hearing, will be effective Feb. 2-6 only and include these basic provisions:
Four zones have been established within Marion County. Rates range from $15 to $50 within Marion County, depending on the proximity to downtown.
Flat rate fares only apply to trips that originate or end in the downtown zone. All other trips will be billed according to the taximeter.
All licensed taxicab drivers are required to accept credit and debit cards.
“The flat rate map makes it easy for visitors and residents alike to anticipate their fare rather than rely on the traditional meter while traveling to and from downtown during this event period. The flat rates also provide an incentive for taxicab drivers to travel the shortest, most efficient route,” said Rick Powers, DCE director.
A copy of the flat rate map and additional information about its implementation are available online at www.indy.gov/taxi.
The public is reminded to contact DCE via the dedicated hotline at (317) 327-TAXI (8294) or via email at taxi@indy.gov to lodge a complaint about a taxicab. Complainants should provide their contact information, the taxicab company name and cab number.
