Angie’s List launches pilot in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (February 4, 2013) — Angie’s List has launched an Indianapolis pilot version of a new service designed to help neighbors easily meet and communicate in a secure environment at AngiesList.com.

Called Band of Neighbors, the service is a private forum in which neighbors can share advice about local resources, alert each other to crime and safety issues and get to know their community. Current topics of conversation range from recommendations for services and general neighborhood responsibilities to travel warnings and calls for community action.

“Angie’s List is already the place where Central Indiana consumers go to get recommendations from each other for local services. It only makes sense that we provide them an opportunity to communicate with each other about everything else relevant to their neighborhood,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks.

When asked recently how well they knew their neighbors, Angie’s List members reported that they only knew about 25 percent or fewer. “The overwhelming majority went on to say they would feel safer in their home if they knew more of the people around them,” Hicks said.

Designed to facilitate the type of unique support that only neighbors can provide to each other, content posted on the forums is private and only available for those neighbors with proof of residence. Consumers can check the service at by going to https://neighbors.angieslist.com/landing/ .

“Band of Neighbors will help get neighbors engaged again in each other’s lives in a positive way,” Hicks said. “That’s what Angie’s List is all about.”

Band of Neighbors is being piloted in Indianapolis, Columbus, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Hicks started the now national consumer review site in 1995, gathering research from homeowners and sharing information with subscribers about which companies to hire and which to avoid. The new service is free of charge to neighborhood members regardless of Angie’s List membership.
