School #79 needs umbrellas

More by this author

Indianapolis Public Schools Carl Wilde Elementary School #79 is seeking donations of umbrellas for its students. Carl Wilde Elementary has the largest number of students who are refugees in the district. Many refugee students entered the U.S. with very few basic essentials including umbrellas.

ā€œThere are 768 students at the school, and wouldn’t it be something special if our community could donate one for each student,ā€ said IPS spokesman John Althardt.

The umbrella campaign will run until Aug. 30. The umbrella can be new or used but should be in good working condition. Helping others promotes service learning in the community. IPS refugee students will certainly appreciate the umbrellas now and especially in the spring.

To make a donation, contact the school at (317) 226-4279 or the IPS Office of School and Community Relations at (317) 226-4649.
