Ivy Tech Community College has been named to the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media.
The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
“We’re honored to be among the schools recognized for service to our veterans,” Ivy Tech President Thomas Snyder said. “Providing the opportunity for them to receive an education is one small way for us to give back for their service to our country. We feel it is our privilege to make that possible for our veterans.”
The Military Friendly Schools media and website, found at Militaryfriendlyschools.com, features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.
Ivy Tech is committed to providing resources to ensure veterans succeed. The college froze tuition for the past three years for all Hoosier veterans eligible for the GI Bill, members of the Indiana National Guard, Hoosier veterans and Indiana members of the federal military reserve.
Ivy Tech served more veterans than any other college in the state of Indiana. Currently, the college serves over 6,300 veterans.
Ivy Tech is committed to seeing veterans succeed with a support staff throughout the state and a statewide director to expand opportunities for veterans.
The Veterans Affairs Office serves as a liaison between students who are veterans, their dependents and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The office assists students with veteran status and dependents of service members disabled or deceased. With 14 offices available statewide, the team also oversees educational benefits and financial aid for veterans.
