Indy Parks and Recreation now hiring lifeguards

More by this author

Indy Parks and Recreation is now hiring more than 300 seasonal lifeguards and pool supervisors to safely operate 20 aquatic facilities throughout Marion County.

Lifeguarding is a great job for high school and college students, teachers looking for summer employment, or older adults wanting to become more involved in their community.

Indy Parks’ lifeguards are trained and certified using the StarGuard certification program which covers lifeguarding skills, water rescue techniques, First Aid, and CPR. The training is completed at an Indy Parks’ internal training facility and is available on select weekends starting April 4.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 16 years old, a Marion County resident and pass a swimming test that includes a 200 yard swim using front crawl or breast stroke; one minute tread with hands out of the water and retrieval of a 10-pound diving brick from 12 feet of water.

Successful completion of the course not only consists of proof of competency in water rescue techniques, but also requires having an A+ attitude, being on time, showing maturity, responsibility and respect. Working hours and conditions can vary throughout the summer.

Apply online at Indy.gov/lifeguard or call (317) 327-1470 for more information.
