Stanley K. Lacy executive leadership series announces members of class XXXIX

More by this author

Twenty-five young professionals will become more effective community leaders as they learn about the needs and issues facing central Indiana as members of Class XXXIX of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series (SKL).Ā

The series each year selects 25 individuals to participate in this highly competitive program, which seeks to expand the ranks of community leaders by teaching and motivating members to address the needs of Central Indiana.

Class members are chosen because of their significant community involvement and professional achievement; their demonstrated interest in community issues; a record of participation and achievement in voluntary community activities; and their willingness to expand their leadership role in the community.

ā€œThrough their participation in this SKL class, these young professionals are investing in themselves as a new generation of leaders,ā€ said Rebecca King, SKL Program Director. ā€œThey are making a public commitment to playing a key role in Central Indiana’s future and our community will be strengthened by their passion, insight, and leadership.ā€

Judge Sarah Evans Barker of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana has been named the Moderator for SKL Class XXXIX.Ā  To ensure that the series is timely and topical, each class’s moderator identifies aspects of broad economic and societal issues that are specific to central Indiana for the class to study.

ā€œIt is a special privilege for me to serve as moderator of the next SKL class – Class XXXIX, in this ongoing, impressive series — and be allowed the opportunity to engage over the coming year with the recently selected, extraordinary group of emerging leaders,ā€ said Judge Barker. ā€œDuring the months ahead, we will explore and grapple with and hopefully deepen our understanding of what it means to live in community and to take responsibility for guiding and shaping our shared future, and in the process strengthen our commitment to its improvement. Ā If the past is a reliable indicator, the relationships that are established among us will also yield friendships for life. Ā To be a part of something as promising and enriching and enlivening as this is, as I said, a special privilege, indeed!ā€

Class XXXIX will meet monthly from September through June.Ā  Participants will interact with local leaders, professional experts and community decision makers to discuss a range of community issues.
