Converse, Nike affiliate, has filed 31 lawsuits against retailers who have sold imitations of its Chuck Taylor sneakers. Big retailers were hit such as Wal-Mart, H&M and K-Mart for trademark infringement.
āFor generations, the Chuck Taylor, universally known as the āChuck,ā has captured the hearts and minds of millions of consumers, selling over a billion pairs globally during the past century,ā said Jim Calhoun, Converseās president and chief executive. āWe welcome fair competition, but we do not believe companies have the right to copy the Chuckās trademarked look.ā
The affiliate has also filed an additional lawsuit to the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to prohibit imitations from entering the country.
