Converse sues retailers for trademarked shoes

More by this author

Converse, Nike affiliate, has filed 31 lawsuits against retailers who have sold imitations of its Chuck Taylor sneakers. Big retailers were hit such as Wal-Mart, H&M and K-Mart for trademark infringement.

ā€œFor generations, the Chuck Taylor, universally known as the ā€˜Chuck,ā€™ has captured the hearts and minds of millions of consumers, selling over a billion pairs globally during the past century,ā€ said Jim Calhoun, Converseā€™s president and chief executive. ā€œWe welcome fair competition, but we do not believe companies have the right to copy the Chuckā€™s trademarked look.ā€

The affiliate has also filed an additional lawsuit to the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to prohibit imitations from entering the country.
